A Successful Presentation of Luka Koper in Thailand

Between 12th and 16th September 2007, Luka Koper participated at the Thailand International Logistics Fair in Bangkok, promoting the so-called southern transport route via the Port of Koper and Slovenia. This event was attended by Mr Robert Časar, President of the Luka Koper Management Board, Deputy President Mr Aldo Babič, together with a number of associates and freight forwarders from Slovenia.
Luka Koper's representatives met with Ms Oranuj Osatananda, Thailand's Deputy Minister of Trade, who also officially opened the fair. Ms Osatananda stated that efficient logistics systems play a key role in successful trade and exchange.
Discussions were also held with the President of TIFFA - Thai International Freight Forwarders Association - whose membership encompasses 120 logistics companies. The Association's President, Mr Suwit Ratanachinda, believes that the transport route via Koper provides excellent opportunities in reaching Central and Eastern European markets, further to which he anticipates visiting Koper in early 2008.
At a conference addressing strategies for establishing freight and logistics connections between Asia and Europe - which was organised parallel with the Fair - Luka Koper 's representatives presented the main advantages of the Port of Koper as an entrepôt for cargos from the Far East destined for European markets.
In addition, Luka Koper's management met with the representatives of Leam Chabang, Thailand's largest seaport, discussing the prospects for joint promotion. Leam Chabang handles 700,000 cars and 4.5 million TEUs of container freight per annum. There are seven car manufacturers in the proximity of the port, and vehicle throughput is anticipated to surpass 2 million units a year. Both ports agree that the spheres of cars and containers provide opportunities for joint ventures in establishing logistics connections between Thailand and Central and Eastern Europe.
