Cargo Throughput in the First Quarter of 2010

During the first quarter of 2010, cargo throughput amounted to 3,789,792 tonnes, which is a year-on increase of two percent. Cargo volumes exceeded the equivalent first quarter in 2009 at the General Cargo Terminal (up 63%), Container Terminal, Car Terminal and Bulk Cargo Terminal (up 12%).
Between January and March, the Container Terminal handled a total of 111,984 TEUs, which is a year-on increase of thirty percent. However, a downward trend on last year’s first trimester was recorded in relation to timber (down 2%), fruit and perishables (down 56%), break bulk cargos (down 18%) and oil derivatives (down 14%). The throughput of other liquid cargos remained at last year’s level. In the first quarter of 2010, the Car terminal handled 75,800 vehicles, which is eight percent down on anticipations, but twenty-two percent ahead of the first quarter of 2009.
