Trading in 2018

Ljubljana Stock Exchange has had yet another successful year. Not only did the value of the index increase for the third year in a row, it also exceeded 900 points for the first time in eight years, indicating positive trends on the Slovenian capital market. It reached the highest value on 6 June 2018 at value 907.58 points. In December the special review of the index, the shares of Nova Ljubljanska banka were included in the calculation of the parameters of the SBI TOP index value.

The SBITOP index ended the year valued at 805.06 points. The month with the most trades was the month of May, which was mainly due to the acquisition of Gorenje. A fall increase in interest for Slovenian shares was due to the first listing of a new share after more than ten years. Those were NLBR shares of Nova Ljubljanska banka.

In 2018, we also witnessed an increase in trading activities and in the volume of trading at the Stock Exchange in comparison to 2017. The total Ljubljana Stock Exchange turnover in 2018 was EUR 337.32 million, which is a 2.91% decrease compared to the year before. Turnover without block trades amounted to EUR 286.49 million, which is by 17.7% more than in the previous year. Most of the turnover was made with shares: EUR 327.69 million, followed by bonds with EUR 9.63 million in turnover.

This year, 38,108 trades were concluded, which is 24.4 percent less than the year before. The average daily number of trades amounted to 155.5, while the average value of each trade was EUR 8,852, which exceeded the average value of the trade from 2017 for EUR 1,959 and 28.4 per cent.

In 2018, again, the most traded shares were shares of Krka (KRKG), a Prime Market company, with which EUR 86.404 million or 25.6 percent of total turnover generated on the regular market was generated. Second place went to Cinkarna Celje (CICG). The latter generated EUR 56.47 million of turnover, representing a 16.7 percent share, followed by Zavarovalnica Triglav (ZVTG) shares with EUR 43.241 million or 12.8 percent of the total Ljubljana Stock Exchange turnover.

The positive trend in the movement of courses was also due to the rise in the value of the entire market capitalization of the stock market, which, despite the withdrawal of 8 securities from the market, exceeded the value of EUR 33.366 billion. At the end of the year, 67 securities were included in trading 41 issuers with a total market capitalization of shares of EUR 6.35 billion.

This year, one new share and two new bonds were listed for trading with a total issue value of EUR 1.52 billion and 2 commercial papers with a total issue value of EUR 36.534 million.

In regard to trading on the new MFT SI ENTER market, 58 securities were listed in 2018, which accounted for EUR 4.725 million turnover over the course of one year. The average daily number of transactions was 2.2, and the average value of each transaction was EUR 8,669.61.
