LUKA KOPER, d.d., Koper

Luka Koper's Supervisory Board Visits Sežana

At its 27th regular session, Luka Koper d.d.'s Supervisory Board met yesterday in Sežana. The members had a tour of the European distribution centre which is being built by Adria Terminali , a subsidiary of Luka Koper at a strategic location on the fifth European transport corridor not far from Slovenia's western border with Italy.

Luka Koper has purchased buildings and land formerly owned by BTC, and currently operates a 12-hectare site with 18,000 m2 of enclosed warehousing facilities. The company has already acquired most of the land in close proximity, and plans are under preparation in conjunction with Sežana Municipality that will facilitate the expansion of the centre to 90 hectares. Adria Terminali is currently engaged in the provision of warehousing and distribution services for various types of cargo, everything from steel products to vegetables. In the future, container freight and vehicles could also be distributed via Sežana.

Members of Supervisory Board were also introduced to - and sanctioned - the plan to increase container terminal facilities. In addition to the extension of Pier I - the first 50 metres of the new quayside has already been completed, whilst the remaining 96 will be finished by year's end - Luka Koper will infill the hinterland areas of the existing berth 7B to a length of approximately 150 metres. The € 11 million investment will enlarge the container freight manipulation zone by some 10%, and is also the prerequisite for the installation of larger cranes. Further to this, the Supervisory Board endorsed the purchase of a further two post-panamax cranes (two have already been commissioned) which will facilitate the servicing of vessels with capacities of up to 8,000 TEUs.

This onformation will be available on company's website from 17th September 2008 onwards.
