LUKA KOPER, d.d., Koper

Information regarding crane accident

Pursuant to the Rules and Regulations of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange and the relevant legislation, the company LUKA KOPER, d.d. hereby publishes the following information:

At around 9 o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, June 7th, 2017, an accident occurred in the Port of Koper in which a quayside crane for dry bulk cargo handling was damaged. According to the information currently available – the accident investigation is still in progress – a car carrier vessel, berthed along the Port’s Basin III, was pushed by a strong wind towards the bulk cargo terminal where it hit the quayside crane. After being hit, the 26-year old crane collapsed, suffered major damage and can be no longer used. In Luka Koper, the proceedings aimed at selecting the best bidder for the crane’s scrapping are already underway. In addition, the company is exploring all options to replace the damaged crane, including the possibility of buying a new crane whose value has been estimated at approximately eight million euros.

In addition to the crane, the accident also involved cargo-moving equipment and other quayside infrastructure that, according to professional opinion, suffered minor damage and will not prevent further cargo handling. By the arrival of the next ship scheduled for next weekend, the terminal will be operating, but with a reduced capacity and with shorter quayside available. Due to additional operative costs, the company is facing the risk of potential opportunity costs. Therefore, the Luka Koper’s management board will, with due diligence, do its utmost to protect the company’s interest and minimize the consequences of the damage.
